I bought my first Apera stir plate last month and just bought two more. I have no idea how this is so cheap and works so well! We do alkalinity titrations in the field and this is perfect. I don't need to be connected to power. It fits my Orion pH and temperature probes perfectly. I can stir small volumes without creating a vortex. It is breaks down into two pieces. I haven't seen any flaws yet.
We are actively using this basic stirrer in our lab. Make no mistake: It's dead simple and doesn't have a ton of features. But, when it comes to needing that extra piece of equipment at a simple price, this does really well. Also, it's kind of fun to be able to SEE the spinning magnets that interact with your stir bar. Finally, I appreciate the inclusion of the standing rod and thermometer-holder. It seems trivial, but it makes a difference.
This is a great product. Its advertised special features work well, namely: (1) stirring speed recall and save function (so you don't have to reprogram the stirring speed), and (2) battery-powered - which is especially useful for in-lab use where sometimes, surprisingly, outlets can be at a premium. Seems reasonably well made, durable and likely to last long enough.
