Fast, accurate and covers the range of water tests we require for our cosmetics production facility. OK, the lcd screen maybe a bit small, but it is easily readable. The available instructions are good. Comes in a neat kit box, so very easy to store in our lab or take it to the test sight for in-process measurements. Excellent value and functionality. We are very happy with this purchase.
After trying entry level ph and TDS meters, which all broke in less than a month, I tried this Apera PC60. It looked like an all-in-one quality product and had good reviews. I have been pleased with the performance and stability of the PC60 and feel it is of great value and dependable. The cheap instruments fluctuate constantly then end up breaking. I recommend skipping the cheap stuff and just buy one product that will do the job. I highly recommend the PC60 and would purchase it again for my hydroponic garden garden use.
Works great. Gives reliable readings. Very easy to use. I use it to test water in a salt water hot tub.
Last year I asked my wife if I could grow an herb garden on the deck. We love to cook and fresh herbs and they are never handy when you need them. She agreed. Like every other hobby I get into, I go BIG. That little container herb garden morphed into various gardens. I built 3 different 4x8 raised garden beds, added more containers all over the property filled with fruits and veggies, and built various hydroponic systems. I have 2 hydroponic vertical strawberry walls hanging off my deck railing. A dutch bucket bean tower and tomato systems. DWC herb and hot peppers. I am working on a fogger based hydro system. Following nutrient mixing directions online, I was seeing some issues with my hydro systems. I had a cheap pH meter and PPM meter. I decided to buy a more professional meter to make sure my pH and nutrient levels were accurate. They were not. After getting the Apera PC60, I found that my pH meter was off by .5! In hydroponics that is a huge gap. My PPM meter was off some as well, but not as bad. This tool is really helping me get my hydroponics under control. The Apera PC60 is super easy to use. It comes with everything needed to calibrate and feel confident in your readings. I even tested it against a 1000 TDS calibration solution I had and it read great! The display is easy to use and the back light is very handy. I love that the "cap" is built in a way to put your liquid in, with a fill line, and closes securely around the pen. It then is able to calculate the different levels in the liquid. I no longer have to bend over and hold my pen in the nutrient reservoirs. One of the best features is the ability to set the TDS factor. This is important because PPM is calculated differently in different parts of the world. It gets very confusing. Here in the US, we take the E.C. value and multiple by 500 to get PPM. So an E.C. of 2.0mS will be 1000 PPM. In Europe and other parts of the world, you take the E.C and multiply bey 700. So an E.C. of 2.0mS is 1400 (2x700). When looking at various sites on the internet to get nutrient strength suggestions, they very based on where they are located. You can either do the math yourself, or set the parameter in this pen to match your needs. Awesome!
I am new to hydroponic gardening, but I can say that this is the easiest instrument to use and it tests for everything you need to know about your water for hydroponics. I was a bit hesitant when I first got the tester as i read the instructions and it seemed a bit to in depth for what I need, boy was I wrong! After watching video on calibration on APERA'S website it was easy as could be to calibrate and even easier to use. I highly recommend the APERA PC 60 for novice to pro hydroponic gardeners!
So far this meter have been great. I use it for my saltwater aquarium n the reading is accurate. Shipping is fast.
I am a hobby gardener who loves greens. Several years ago I began growing hydroponic greens -- lettuce, bok choi, basil, kale -- in a hobby hydroponic setup. I wanted to delve more deeply into hydroponics but was frustrated by the pH meters available at local gardening stores. After searching the web and reading reviews I chose this meter, particularly because it measures more than just pH. I have been using it for over 6 weeks now and I can't say enough good about it. It was extremely easy to calibrate. Having all of the necessary calibration chemicals included in the purchase price is a big plus. It is giving me consistent results and I now have complete confidence in the readings. For example, it measured the change in pH from adding one tablespoon of pH Down to a 6 gallon reservoir. The device is well made and switching between what is measured is accomplished by a simple button push. This is the best piece of scientific equipment that I own or have ever owned for gardening.
I bought this meter to conduct readings for our company SWPPP. It has been a fantastic meter so far and i will be purchasing another one for our second facility. I received it as described and the packaging was in good condition. Unlike other meters we have tried, this one comes with a great case and all the sample cups necessary to start as soon as you open the package. (They do recommend soaking the probe prior to initial use.)
Having previous experience with scientific research grade pH meters, I've maintained this pen in electrode storage solution between uses, and always rinsed the electrode with deionized water between measurement and before storage. With those precautions, both the pH and EC readings have remained on-point without recalibrating for more than a month at this point. When I do check the calibration, the instrument is never more than 0.05pH off-target.
I recently purchase the PC60 to test my aquariums (freshwater fish and shrimp) to monitor the PH and EC (TDS). The unit was sold as Used but it is like new condition. It contained all calibration solutions and they were in sealed bottles and all other standard extras were included. Love the case to keep all of the components together and to keep the tester from getting damage. As recommended in instructions, I soaked the PH probe in the solutions for about 24 hours. Next I checked the PH calibration and it was within .03 so I did not need to calibrate the PH. Checked the EC and it needed to be calibrated. This was so easy. As a comparison, I have a cheap TDS meter and when I tried to calibrate it, I was unsuccessful because who knows what a mini phillips screwdriver is? The push button calibration is simple and easy. Test result were more believable than my other meters and API drop test kits. Since my drop test only goes down to 6, I was not sure exactly how low my PH was and who can ever exactly know which shade of green matches the vial? Now I know more precise numbers. TDS is calculated by the tester and this tester gives you the ability to change the conversion factor. Great option but I am struggling with determining an accurate conversion factor for my application. (This is not a fault of the tester) All information I can find on the dwarf freshwater shrimp I keep has their ideal PH, GH, KH, and TDS. Since TDS is actually calculated off of the EC, I am not sure what conversion factor I should use, but I settled on .48 because I have some 342 ppm calibration solution which is also 700 microseimens, so simple math 342/700=0.488. I know a lot depends on what you testing for the conversion factor. I wish the "shrimp experts" would provide an ideal EC, since that is the basis in which TDS is calculated. Again, not a fault of the PC60, its a plus to be able to change the conversion factor. Biggest issue with shrimp is consistency so I am hoping that this meter will help me to keep the parameters more consistent. Bottom line - Awesome tester for PH, EC, TDS, Salinity, and Temperature. I did not find any other combo testers on the market for this price. If you buy a nice EC and PH pen tester, you will spend well over what this tester cost and I don't think they come with the case and calibration solutions.
