The Apera PH60 is a fantastic test pen! It comes with pretty much everything you would need for basic usage such as mine for a DWC system and is very accurate, I made double sure by calibrating with the solution provided in the kit then testing reference solution from General Hydroponics and it tested perfect! I love the heads up settings! the auto-hold setting is very nice but if you are testing a sample with any amount of movement then I wouldn't suggest using it understandably but if you are measuring a completely still sample then it's great to have! The build quality of then pen is incredible and love the fact its waterproof. I was using a cruddy $20 pen but was getting really suspect results and it was taking forever to get a stable reading so I upgraded to this beauty and can surely say it is well worth the money and am glad I paid up for it!
I have one of these at home and one at the brewery where I work. They hold calibration, the batteries last a very long time, and withstand getting wet repeatedly every day. Use a storage solution.
Easy to use once you do some practice runs...stays accurate as long as well maintained.
I had to return 1 unit because it failed due to an apparent battery leak which made a mess and the unit stopped functioning. But, it appears to be a good product and worked well until then. I have another unit which is working fine. I like the fact that it uses regular batteries instead of expensive "button" style ones, and that it has a replaceable probe. It is a little more complicated to operate and calibrate than the Oakton pH2 meters I used to buy, but Oakton's new "2+" design does not work properly, and these seem to be a better product. I requested a replacement for my failed unit because I do believe it is a good design. The M & S batteries that come in them may not be.
When you try to calibrate it shows will not calibrate. On the 4 pH just er1
Initial impressions are that this was an excellent buy. The meter is really simple to calibrate and use. The instructions are reasonably well written and the kit has everything you need to get started in its nice case.
I went through a few pH testers before settling on this one. I went from cheapest, to cheaper, to cheap, to the PH60 and I'm so happy I gave it a shot. It's easy to calibrate, holds a calibration for weeks (I use it bi-daily for watering plants), and if the tip ever breaks it's replaceable. The backlight is also really nice. I can't think of anything I'd improve. It's perfect!
Don't waste your time with the cheap ones. This is exactly what you need for growing your tomatoes, checks the ph, comes w a calibration kit, also comes in a nice case, if you are careful with the case it should last you a long time, I see other reviews complainng about the case..that's a bunch of bs lol, it's plastic but unless you throw it on the ground your good.
I bought this to test the ph and temp of my nutrient solution. I use this multiple times each day and so far so good. There are much more expensive ones out there, but this has all the features I need, plus it comes with calibration solutions(4.0 and 7.0) and a small amount of storage solution(the amount it comes with will last about a week or 2, so you buy some at the same time).Hopefully it lasts a long time, but with the sensitivity of the probe anythings possible. Replaceable probes are cheaper then a new unit! I would recommend if you want a good quality, waterproof, replaceable probe, and don't want to spend a lot.
Great product. After owning other pH meters (Bluelab) and always being disappointed, I decided to give Apera a try. This pH pen works great and is half the price I will be purchasing an Apera combo meter in the near future.
